Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) has introduced the Homecoming Help for our Heroes Act to mandate reduced airfares for service members on leave.  The bill will also make it less of a hassle to get standby seats.  Since service members are often given little time for planning before they are sent on leave, they are often left with footing a huge airfare bill.  This bill (H.R. 6446) will force the airlines to reduce fares.  Congress has tried in the past to get service members a break with the airlines by passing a resolution in 2003 and again this year, but it was only a request and not a requirement.  H.R. 6446 was referred to the House Transportation and and Infrastructure Committee.  There is only one other co-sponsor at this time, Jason Altmire (D-PA).  Please contact your Congressman and urge them to co-sponsor, H.R. 6446, the Homecoming Help for our Heroes Act.
